Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. For those who have stepped foot into a tennis court, you’ll know that you need a certain set of gear.
Aside from a tennis racket and ball, you’ll also need a suitable top, a pair of shorts, socks, and maybe a visor to keep the sun out of your eyes.

ToggleHow to Wash Tennis Clothes
Ideally, you should wash your tennis clothes (especially tennis whites) as soon as you get home from a game. The quicker you wash them, the less likely they will smell; this goes for all workout clothes.

Remember, though, different clothes have different washing instructions so you don’t want to put everything in the same load and call in a day.
How to Wash Tennis Sports Bras
There are two ways to clean these garments, which are typically made from performance fabrics – you can either run them through the washing machine or hand wash them in a sink.
Putting Your Sports Bra in the Washer
Make sure to follow these steps when you’re machine washing your sports bras.
Step 1: Use a Laundry Bag

Place the bra in a mesh laundry bag; that will minimize friction during the wash cycle, which will help prevent damage. Make sure the bag is closed properly and load it into the washer.
Step 2: Add ACTIVE Detergent

Add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Avoid using fabric softener; it will ruin the sports bras’ moisture-wicking finish.
Consider using white vinegar instead if you want to soften the fabric; simply add half a cup during the rinse cycle.
Step 3: Run a Delicate Cycle

Run a delicate cycle with cold water. Do not use hot water; the heat will damage the delicate fabric and elastic.
Step 4: Let Them Air Dry

After washing, let the bras air dry on a drying rack or clothesline. Do not tumble dry.
Do not leave them in the washing machine for long periods as the moist environment will breed bacteria and mold.
Supply:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Laundry bag
- Drying rack or clothesline
If the sports bra comes with removable pads, you can wash them by hand or put them in their own laundry bag and machine wash everything together.
ACTIVE Laundry Detergent
Enzymatic laundry detergent specially designed for sweaty garments like tennis clothing.

Washing Your Sports Bras in the Sink
Sports bras are machine washable, but that doesn’t mean that you have to put them into the washer every time. You can just as easily wash them by hand.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Water
- Drying rack or clothesline
Step 1:
Fill a large sink with cool water and add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Using your hands, gently agitate the liquid to dissolve the powder.

Step 2:
Once it’s thoroughly combined, place your sports bras in. Make sure they are completely immersed and let them soak for 15-30 minutes.

Step 3:
Gently massage the fabric with your hands to loosen any remaining dirt and oils, then rinse the bra with cool water.
Continue to rinse until the water runs clear.

Step 4:
Press the excess water out of the fabric and let it air dry on a drying rack or clothesline.
Do not wring or twist the fabric; that will stretch out and damage the material.

Washing Instructions for Tennis Dresses and Skorts
Tossing Your Tennis Dresses and Skorts into the Washer
Tennis dresses and skorts are typically made of synthetic fabrics such as polyester, meaning they can be put in the washing machine.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Laundry bag
- Drying rack or clothesline

Step 1:
Turn the garment inside out and place it in a mesh laundry bag before loading it into the washing machine.

Step 2:
Add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent.
Skip the fabric softener – it will coat your dresses and skorts with a wax-like layer that will prevent sweat from evaporating from the surface.

Step 3:
Wash everything on a delicate cycle with cold water.
Avoid using hot water; it can damage the fibers and cause them to wear out prematurely.

Step 4:
Remove the items from the washer once the cycle is complete and let them air dry on a clothesline or drying rack.
You can wash tennis dresses and skorts with other activewear as long as they’re sorted by color.
Washing Your Tennis Dresses and Skorts by Hand
You can also wash your tennis dresses and skorts in the sink; you just have to make sure it’s large enough for the garments.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Water
- Clean towel (optional)
- Drying rack or clothesline
Step 1:
Fill a sink with cool water and add a scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Using your hand, gently agitate the liquid to dissolve the powder.

Step 2:
Once the detergent is completely dissolved, place your dresses and skorts in the sink and let them sit for 15-20 minutes (longer if they are excessively dirty with sunscreen stains and food)

Step 3:
Gently massage the fabric after soaking, then rinse with cool water.
Continue until the water becomes clear. There shouldn’t be any soap suds left on the fabric.

Step 4:
Let the dresses and skorts air dry on a drying rack or clothesline, away from direct sunlight.
If necessary, you can use a clean towel to absorb some of the excess moisture. Do not put them in the dryer.

Best Way to Clean Tennis Visors/Hats
Washing Away the Sweat with Laundry Detergent
Washing your visors and hats regularly is the best way to prevent odors.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Water
- A round item

Step 1:
Fill a sink with cold water and add a bit of ACTIVE Detergent. Swish the water a few times to dissolve the powder

Step 2:
Place your tennis visor or hat into the detergent mixture and let it soak for at least 30 minutes.
Remember, the entire item should be submerged in the solution.

Step 3:
After soaking, gently rub the fabric between your fingers to remove any remaining dirt and sweat.
Rinse with cool water afterwards. Continue until all of the soap suds are gone.

Step 4:
Gently press the excess water out of the hat, then lay it flat to dry on a clean surface.
Ideally, you want to put it on some sort of round object so it can retain its shape.
Never put your tennis visor in the dryer – the heat will permanently damage the material.
How to Clean and Deodorize Tennis Shoes
It’s not uncommon for tennis shoes to get dirty with grass, mud, or dirt. Fortunately, you can clean them easily.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Water
- Soft bristle brush
- Paper towels
- Newspaper (optional)
Step 1:
Start by removing the shoelace and insoles – it’s best to wash them separately by hand.
Gently clap the shoes together afterwards to remove excess dirt from the soles.

Step 2:
Fill a container with water and add some ACTIVE Detergent to create a cleaning solution.

Step 3:
Saturate a soft bristle brush with the solution and gently scrub the outside of the shoes.
Wipe it dry with a couple of paper towels afterward.

Step 4:
Rinse the soles with water. If necessary, use a brush to get rid of any debris that might be stuck on the bottom.
Wipe it dry when you’re finished.

Step 5:
Allow the tennis shoes to dry completely before wearing them again.
To speed up the process, you can stuff them with newspaper; that will help eliminate some of the excess moisture.

Never put your tennis shoes in the dryer; they’re not made to withstand the heat.
