How to Wash Tennis Clothing

September 20, 2024

Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world. For those who have stepped foot into a tennis court, you’ll know that you need a certain set of gear.

Aside from a tennis racket and ball, you’ll also need a suitable top, a pair of shorts, socks, and maybe a visor to keep the sun out of your eyes.

How to Wash Tennis Clothes

Ideally, you should wash your tennis clothes (especially tennis whites) as soon as you get home from a game. The quicker you wash them, the less likely they will smell; this goes for all workout clothes.

Remember, though, different clothes have different washing instructions so you don’t want to put everything in the same load and call in a day.

How to Wash Tennis Sports Bras

There are two ways to clean these garments, which are typically made from performance fabrics – you can either run them through the washing machine or hand wash them in a sink.

Putting Your Sports Bra in the Washer

Make sure to follow these steps when you’re machine washing your sports bras.

Step 1: Use a Laundry Bag

laundry bag

Place the bra in a mesh laundry bag; that will minimize friction during the wash cycle, which will help prevent damage. Make sure the bag is closed properly and load it into the washer.

Step 2: Add ACTIVE Detergent

active detergent

Add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Avoid using fabric softener; it will ruin the sports bras’ moisture-wicking finish.

Consider using white vinegar instead if you want to soften the fabric; simply add half a cup during the rinse cycle.

Step 3: Run a Delicate Cycle

Run a delicate cycle with cold water. Do not use hot water; the heat will damage the delicate fabric and elastic.

Step 4: Let Them Air Dry

After washing, let the bras air dry on a drying rack or clothesline. Do not tumble dry.

Do not leave them in the washing machine for long periods as the moist environment will breed bacteria and mold.

Supply:

  • ACTIVE Detergent
  • Laundry bag
  • Drying rack or clothesline

If the sports bra comes with removable pads, you can wash them by hand or put them in their own laundry bag and machine wash everything together.

Washing Your Sports Bras in the Sink

Sports bras are machine washable, but that doesn’t mean that you have to put them into the washer every time. You can just as easily wash them by hand.

Supplies:

  • ACTIVE Detergent
  • Water
  • Drying rack or clothesline

Step 1:

Fill a large sink with cool water and add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Using your hands, gently agitate the liquid to dissolve the powder.

Once it’s thoroughly combined, place your sports bras in. Make sure they are completely immersed and let them soak for 15-30 minutes.

Step 3:

Gently massage the fabric with your hands to loosen any remaining dirt and oils, then rinse the bra with cool water.

Continue to rinse until the water runs clear.

Step 4:

Wash everything on a delicate cycle with cold water.

Avoid using hot water; it can damage the fibers and cause them to wear out prematurely.

Step 4:

Remove the items from the washer once the cycle is complete and let them air dry on a clothesline or drying rack.

You can wash tennis dresses and skorts with other activewear as long as they’re sorted by color.
