We had dark staining around the overflow plate that regular bathroom cleaner never touched. A thin layer of gel cleared it up.

Our rubber gasket was covered with black staining deep inside the folds. I had already tried bleach spray, vinegar, brushes and several washer cleaners without getting much improvement. I worked the gel into each stained section and left it alone for most of the day. When I removed it the rubber looked dramatically cleaner. A few of the oldest areas needed one more treatment but replacing the entire seal no longer seems necessary.
