The Gym People is one of the many clothing brands that you can find on Amazon. They offer various products for both men and women including shorts, tank tops, hoodies, t-shirts, sports bras, and more.
More About The Gym People
Unfortunately, not much is known about the brand itself. Judging from the number of reviews that they have, however, they’re quite popular. Some of their best sellers include their yoga pants, sports bras, shorts, and fleece joggers.
As far as we can tell, they only sell on Amazon; they don’t have an official website from which you can order.
What Kind of Activewear Do They Offer?
Their women’s collection consists of sports bras, yoga pants, leggings, tank tops, shorts, and hoodies. On top of that, they also offer joggers, cooling shirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, and underwear for men.
Like most Amazon brands, their prices are very reasonable. You can easily get 2-3 items for $50. Take their sports bras, for example, they can get one for about $20, which is a lot cheaper than what you can get in stores. And don’t forget, you won’t have to pay for shipping either if you’re a Prime member (assuming that you order above the minimum).
Taking Care of The Gym People Clothing
Their products are good value for the price. They might not be super high-quality, per se, but they’re not flimsy either. Take proper care of them and they should last you a while. This means doing the laundry as soon as possible or at the very least, airing them out.
Don’t throw your tops into the washer and call it a day, though. There are certain steps that you want to take if you want them to last—and that’s what we’ll be going over below.
What Materials Are Their Clothes Made Of?
Before we go over the washing instructions, let’s take a look at the materials that they use for their clothes. If anything, it’s one of the things that you want to consider before washing an item!
Polyamide
Polyamide, also known as nylon, is a synthetic fiber that’s known for its flexibility. Not only is it waterproof, but it’s also immune to tearing. At the same time, it’s soft, which makes it comfortable to wear. The only thing is that it’s prone to degradation by sunlight (ie. its colors can fade if exposed to the sun).
Spandex
Spandex is a synthetic fiber that’s stronger than rubber. It has exceptional elasticity, which makes it ideal for stretchable clothing such as activewear. On top of that, it resists perspiration. However, it tends to trap in sweat and moisture. If anything, that’s one of the main reasons why it’s often blended with cotton.
Polyester
Polyester is known for its durability; it’s resistant to many things including chemicals and wrinkles. It’s also colorfast and quick-drying, which makes it easy to wash. However, it’s not very breathable. It also has a tendency of pilling with regular use.
The Gym People Leggings: What’s the Best Way to Wash Them?
The easiest way to wash their leggings/yoga pants is to use the washer. However, you can also wash them by hand. If anything, that’s better for the fabric. In any case, we’ll be going over both methods in detail below.
Option 1: Machine Washing The Gym People Leggings and Yoga Pants
Consider pre-treating the leggings; it’ll help remove stains and spots. Fill a washtub with cold water and mix in a bit of ACTIVE detergent. Add the leggings once it’s fully mixed and let them soak for 15 minutes. Remember to empty the pockets beforehand.
The next step is to place them in a mesh bag—it’ll protect the fabric so that it’ll retain its elasticity. And make sure to turn them inside out. That way, the outer layer will be less likely to be damaged by friction.
Zip up the mesh bag and put it in the washer. Do the same for the rest of your clothes (you can wash their leggings with other activewear as long as you’ve sorted out the colors). Add 1 scoopful of ACTIVE detergent (or more- it depends on how many items you’re washing) and run a delicate cycle.
Tip: Always use cold water; hot water can compromise the leggings’ shape. For one thing, the heat can stretch out and damage the elastic.
Once the cycle is finished, lay them flat to dry. Or if you want, you can hang them from a clothesline or use a drying rack. Just don’t put them in the clothes dryer.
Option 2: Hand Washing The Gym People Leggings and Yoga Pants
Hand washing might not be the most convenient method, but it’s the gentlest. Start by filling a basin or washtub with cold water (about 3/4 full). Mix in 1/2 a scoop of ACTIVE detergent and use your hands to swish the water; that should help dissolve the powder.
Turn the leggings inside out so that the inner layer is on the outside and place them in the basin (feel free to wash them with other similarly-colored items). As always, you want to empty the pockets beforehand.
Swirl them in the water a few times to loosen any dirt. Once you’ve done that, let them soak for 15-20 minutes. Gently rub the fabric with your hand afterward, before rinsing the pants under running cold water. Continue until all residues of soap are gone.
Resist the urge to wring your leggings. Press them gently on both sides instead to remove the excess water and lay them flat to dry away from direct sunlight. You can also use a clothesline or drying rack.
The Gym People Sports Bras: How Should You Wash Them?
Sports bras, in general, are more delicate than yoga pants and leggings. Given that, you want to be extra careful when you’re washing them.
Option 1: Machine Washing The Gym People Sports Bras
Take out the removable pads and place them in a mesh bag. Turn the bra inside out and place it in the same bag—it’ll prevent it from friction damage so that it’ll last longer. Never wash your sports bra without one. Not only will it be exposed to the agitator, but it’ll also rub against your other items during the cycle and that can compromise the fabric.
Ensure the bag’s closed and toss it in the washer. If you’re washing a mixed load, add the rest of your clothes. And if you can, place them in their own mesh bags—that’ll reduce the likelihood of them rubbing against each other.
Add 1 scoopful of ACTIVE detergent once everything is in the machine. Don’t use fabric softener; it’ll clog up the material by ingraining itself into the fibers. In other words, your bra will be harder to wash.
Choose a gentle/delicate wash setting and run a cycle with cold water. Remember, you don’t want to expose your activewear to heat as it can damage the fibers.
Wait for the wash cycle to finish before retrieving the mesh bags. Take out your sports bra and hang them on a clothesline to dry. You can also place them on a drying rack. Just don’t expose them to sunlight, otherwise, the colors can fade. And as always, you want to avoid the dryer.
Option 2: Hand Washing The Gym People Sports Bras
Hand washing is your best bet when it comes to sports bras. Start by filling a basin or sink with cool water. Add half a scoop of ACTIVE detergent and use your hands to swish the water. The powder will dissolve and you’ll be left with a soapy solution.
Take out the removable pads and place them in the sink so that they’re completely immersed in the water. Do the same with the sports bra (it’s best if you turn them inside out first). Swirl it around a few times to loosen any dirt and let it soak for 20 to 30 minutes.
Massage the bra gently with your hand and rinse it under cold running water. The goal is to remove all of the soap residues—this can take a couple of minutes (continue until the water runs clear).
Don’t wring the bra like a towel. Gently press out the water instead. You can also use a towel, if necessary. Once the excess water is out, lay it flat to dry. A clothesline or drying rack works as well. Just remember not to leave it out in the sun—it can warp the elastic and cause the colors to fade.
The Best Detergent For The Gym People Clothing
ACTIVE detergent is the best choice for The Gym People clothing and activewear in general. It’s specifically designed for synthetic fibers and will literally break down sweat, dirt, and other grime that’s embedded in the garment. The best part is that it’s all natural—everything is plant-based. It doesn’t contain any fragrances or fillers whatsoever so you won’t have to worry about it irritating your skin. It’s also eco-friendly in that you won’t be introducing any harmful substances to the environment.
Given all that, why wouldn’t you want to give it a try?
