April 14, 2022

TAMGA Designs is a lifestyle brand that’s known for their sustainable fashion. Not only are their products ethically crafted with the planet in mind, but they also use eco-packaging packaging.

More About TAMGA Designs

TAMGA Designs was founded by Yana Barankin and Eric Dales in 2014. Having worked in the field of international development, they saw first-hand the negative effects of the fashion industry and sought out to create their own line of eco-friendly clothing. As of 2023, they donate 1% of their annual sales to the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC) and Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS).

about tamga clothing

While the company is based in Canada, their main supplier is in Indonesia, though they plan on expanding to others around the world.

What Kind of Clothes Do They Sell?

TAMGA offers a variety of women’s clothing including tops, bottoms, jumpsuits, dresses, loungewear, and kimonos, all of which are made with water-saving eyes and eco-friendly fabrics. Price-wise, their products range from $30 to >$100. For example, you can get a t-shirt for $36. They also have a sales section on their website, where you can snag some things on sale.

Taking Care of TAMGA Designs Clothing

The way you wash the items will determine how long they’ll last. For example, hot water is a no-no for tops and bottoms, in general. Sure, it’ll clean the garment but it can also damage the fabric. Similarly, you want to be careful with how you dry the items. You don’t want to expose them to unnecessary heat as that can cause them to wear out much more quickly.

About Their Eco-Friendly Fabrics

TAMGA Design uses various types of eco-friendly fabrics for their products. Here’s what you need to know about them:

Tencel is a light and airy fabric that’s derived from eucalyptus wood. Not only is it soft, but it’s also breathable and comfortable. Plus, it’s naturally anti-bacterial due to its moisture management properties. Compared to other fibers, however, it can be a tad more expensive.

Lenzing Ecovero

Lenzing Ecovero is a sustainable fiber that’s made from purified cellulose. Created from renewable wood pulp, it’s breathable, comfortable, and great at wicking away moisture. It’s also durable in that you won’t have to worry about the dyes fading with washing.

Lenzing Modal

Modal is a semi-synthetic fabric that’s derived from beech-tree pulp. As such, it’s more breathable than traditional manmade fibers such as polyester and nylon. It’s also 50% more absorbent than cotton, which makes it great for everyday and sports clothing. Similar to cotton, however, it is prone to shrinking, especially if exposed to heat.

How to Wash TAMGA Tees

how to wash tamga tees

There are two ways to wash their tee crews—you can either throw them in the washer (along with your other clothes), or wash them by hand.

Machine Washing Your TAMGA Design Tee Crews

Separate your tees based on color (darks with darks, lights with lights); that’ll prevent the dyes from bleeding during washing. And avoid washing them with coarse items such as jeans.

Turn the tee inside out and place it in a mesh wash bag—it’ll protect the fabric from friction damage as the machine spins and tosses the items around. Depending on the size of the bag, you may be able to fit multiple tees inside.

using a laundry bag

Secure the bag’s contents by zipping up the bag. From there, put it in the washer. Once everything is in, add your detergent. One scoop of ACTIVE detergent will suffice, unless you’re washing a large or extra-large load, in which case, you may need to add a bit more powder.

Tip: Avoid softeners and conditioners in general. They’ll leave a layer of residue on your tees, which will prevent the oils and dirt from coming out. White vinegar can be used instead if you want to soften the fabric—just add half a cup during the rinse cycle.

Next, choose your washing cycle. For tees, it’s best to use a delicate setting as it’ll help reduce agitation, which will prevent wear and tear. And make sure to use cold water. Not only is it better for your clothes, but it’ll also save energy.

Turn on your washer and let it run. Wait for it to finish before taking out your tees. Don’t transfer them into the dryer. Instead, let them air dry. For example, you can hang them up on hangers or put them up on a drying rack. Avoid leaving them outside in direct sunlight—its rays can cause the colors to fade.

Hand Washing Your TAMGA design Tee Crews

Fill a bucket or a sink with cold water so that it’s three-quarters full. Measure half a scoop of ACTIVE detergent and pour it in. Swish and agitate the water with your hands so that the powder dissolves.

Turn your tee crew inside out and place it in the water so that it’s completely submerged; the fabric should be completely saturated with the detergent solution. Wave the item through the water a few times, if necessary.

Leave the item in the water for up to 20 minutes. You want the detergent to permeate the fabric so that it can get rid of the dirt and oils. Don’t leave it in for too long, though, otherwise, the dyes can bleed.

Get rid of the dirty water and refill the bucket or sink with clean water from the tap. Gently massage the tee with your hands to loosen the soap suds. Continue to rinse until the water is clear and there’s no more detergent. This can take 1-2 minutes.

Give the t-shirt one final rinse under the faucet and press out the excess water by pressing the item against the edge of the sink. You can also give the shirt a light squeeze with your hands—just don’t twist it like a dishtowel as that can stretch out the fabric.

Place the tee on a clean towel and lay another towel on top. Press down to blot away the excess water. From there, you can hang up the tee on a hanger or laundry rack. Avoid using the clothes dryer.

How to Wash TAMGA Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits require a bit more care due to the way they’re designed. With that said, you can still put them in the washer.

Machine Washing Your TAMGA Design Jumpsuits

Close all velcro and zippers before washing. Turn the jumpsuit inside out and place it in a large mesh bag—that’ll protect it from wear and tear during the cycle. While you can wash the item with other clothes, it’s not recommended that you put it together with heavy fabrics such as jackets or jeans.

Add laundry detergent once you’ve put the jumpsuit in the machine. Generally speaking, one scoop of ACTIVE detergent will suffice unless you’re washing the garment with many other items. Remember to skip the fabric conditioner as it’ll only trap in dirt and oils. White vinegar is a much better alternative if you need to soften your jumpsuits.

Set your washer to use cold water and run a gentle cycle. That’ll reduce agitation, which will make your jumpsuit last longer.

Hit the start button and let the washing machine run. Don’t open the door until the cycle is finished, at which point, you can retrieve your clothes. Instead of transferring them into the dryer, hang them up to dry. It shouldn’t take more than a few hours for the fabric to dry.

Hand Washing Your TAMGA Design Jumpsuits

Fill a clean sink with tepid water. Measure and pour in 1/2 a scoop of ACTIVE detergent to create a bath. You may have to swish the water a few times to help dissolve the detergent.

Close all zippers and velcro and turn the jumpsuit inside out. Carefully submerge it in the sink so that it’s covered by the soapy water. You may also want to swirl it around a few times—that way, you’ll know it’s completely saturated with the solution.

Tip: You can hand wash your jumpsuit with other garments as long as the sink is big enough to fit the items comfortably.

Leave the jumpsuit in the sink for 15-20 minutes or so. That’ll give the detergent time to permeate the fabric so that it can get rid of any sweat, oils, and dirt. But be careful not to leave it in for too long, otherwise, the colors may bleed.

Gently squeeze the excess water out of the jumpsuit with your hands. You can also press it against the edge of the sink to get the moisture out. Once you’ve done that, lay the jumpsuit flat to dry. You can also drape the garment across a laundry rack. Just don’t use the dryer as the heat will permanently damage the fabric. And remember not to leave your jumpsuit outside in the sun!
