How to Wash Superdry Jackets and Leggings

October 23, 2023

Superdry is a UK-based clothing company that’s known for its fusion of Americana and Japanese-inspired graphics. Aside from apparel, they also sell bags, footwear, and accessories such as beanies, wallets, sunglasses, scarves, gloves, and more.

More About the Company

Superdry was founded by Julian Dunkerton and James Holder in 2003. Their first retail store was opened in London the following year.

Since then, they’ve gained a significant presence around the world with over 760 locations in 65 countries. Aside from their shops, they also have franchised and licensed stores.

On top of that, they have 21 international websites that ship to over 100 countries worldwide.

What Kind of Activewear Do They Sell?

They also have their own line of swimwear, which consists of swimsuits, bikinis, swim shorts, and board shorts.

As far as pricing goes, their products are marked fairly competitively. For instance, you can get a hoodie, sweatshirt, or pair of trousers for under $100.

Caring For Your Superdry Activewear

Superdry activewear is known for its durability so you should be able to wear them for a long time. Keep in mind, however, that that only applies if you care for the items properly.

Take their leggings and sports bras, for example, they should be washed after each workout session. That will prevent sweat and oils from damaging the fabric.

Fabrics Used by Superdry

Superdry uses a variety of materials for their clothing, which we’ll be going over below.

Polyester

Polyester is a type of synthetic fabric that’s derived from petroleum. It’s robust, with moisture-wicking abilities, meaning it can pull sweat to the fabric’s outer surface, keeping you dry while you exercise.

Superdry uses polyester for their track jackets, leggings, sports bras, bikini tops, swimsuits, and more.

Elastane

Elastane also goes by the names spandex and Lycra. Despite the different spellings, they refer to the same elastic fiber.

Known for its elasticity, it can be stretched up to 7 times its length without breaking – it’s even stronger than rubber. However, it’s rarely used by itself; it’s often blended with other fabrics such as cotton and nylon.

Superdry uses elastane for their sports bras, leggings, swimsuits, bikini tops, and more.

Polyamide

Polyamide is an umbrella term that includes nylon. It’s soft like silk and is resistant to many things including water, chemicals, and abrasion. While it’s not as stretchy as spandex per se, it does have great flexibility.

Superdry uses polyamide for their swimsuits, bikini tops, jackets, and more.

Modal

Modal is a semi-synthetic fabric that’s derived from tree pulp. While it’s not as durable as other materials, it does have a few pros.

For one thing, it’s exceptionally absorbent; its texture is also silky smooth, which makes it suitable for a variety of clothes. If blended with other fabrics, it can improve their texture.

Superdry uses modal for their hoodies, sweatshirts, and more.

How to Wash Superdry Leggings the Right Way

Option 1: Run Your Superdry Leggings Through the Washer

Start by checking the pockets (if your leggings have them). Remember, anything that’s left inside will be washed along with the pants.

Once you’ve ensured they’re empty, flip the leggings inside out. That will help protect the outer surface from the agitation that comes with machine washing.

active laundry detergentPlace the leggings in a laundry bag, zip it up, and place it in the drum. Add the rest of your laundry (if you’re washing a mixed load) and add a gentle detergent. We recommend using ACTIVE Detergent – one scoop of the powder will suffice.

Skip the fabric softener – it’ll ruin the fabric by covering it with a wax-like compound.

Start the wash cycle once you’ve set all the settings. Wait for the cycle to finish running before retrieving your garment bag.

Remove the leggings, flip them right-side out, and hang them on a rack, and let them air dry in a well-ventilated room. Don’t leave them under direct sunlight as the sun’s rays can cause the material to disintegrate over time. Do not tumble dry.

Option 2: Hand Wash Your Superdry Leggings

Hand washing your leggings is always a good idea as it’s gentler on the fabric. While it might take more effort, you can always wash more than one item at once to save some time.

Step one – remove everything from the pockets. From there, turn the item inside out so that the outer fabric is on the inside.

Next, you want to prepare your bath. Fill a medium-sized basin or sink with cool or tepid water and mix in half a scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. There should be lots of bubbles once the detergent is dissolved.

Soak the leggings by immersing them in the soapy water. Massage the fabric gently to remove any oils or sweat. Afterward, let it sit in the sink; you want to give the ACTIVE Detergent time to penetrate the fibers. About 15-20 minutes should do.

Use clean water to rinse the leggings thoroughly after soaking. Continue to clean and rinse until no more soap bubbles are coming from the fabric. You’ll probably have to squeeze some of them out of the material with your hands. You’ll know they’re clean once the water becomes clear.

Before you hang up the leggings, press out the excess water with your hand. You can even use a towel, if necessary. For the best results, let it air dry indoors in a well-ventilated room, where it’s not exposed to the sun.

Washing Superdry Gym Jackets

Option 1: Machine Washing Your Superdry Gym Jackets

Tip: Always read the tag. In some cases, there will be specific washing instructions. For example, dry cleaning may be necessary for some jackets.

how to wash superdry jacketsIf your jacket has stains, spot-treat them before putting them in the washer.

Once you’ve spot-treated the area, zip up the jacket (and any pockets) and place it in the washing machine. If you want, you can wash them with other jackets – just don’t mix different materials together (e.g. nylon with denim).

Measure one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent powder and pour it into the basin. Do not add bleach or fabric softener.

Wash on a delicate, cold water cycle to prevent damage.

The next step is to zip up the jacket; you don’t want the zipper to get stuck on other garments during the cycle. The same thing goes for any zippered pockets—make sure that they’re closed and empty.

Take your jacket out once the wash cycle finishes and allow it to air dry on a drying rack.

Note: If you’re washing a down jacket, it’s best to place it in the dryer with a few dryer balls or tennis balls – the tumbling action will help ‘re-fluff’ the jacket.

Option 2: Washing Your Superdry Jackets By Hand

Start by removing any surface stains. Once you’ve done that, prep the jacket by emptying the pockets and zippering up all zippers.

Fill a washbasin or sink two-thirds full with tepid water and stir in half a scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Ensure the powder is fully dissolved and place your gym jacket in the solution. Make sure the entire garment is submerged by pressing down on it with your hands.

Leave it in the washbasin to soak for at least 15 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly with water afterward; there shouldn’t be any detergent residue remaining on the fabric. Once the water comes out clear, transfer the jacket to a drying rack or clothesline so that it can dry naturally.

How to Clean Your Superdry Swimsuits

how to clean superdry swimsuitsTheir swimsuits should never be put in the washing machine; they should always be washed by hand.

First things first, give it a thorough rinse once you’ve taken it off – that will help remove some of the chlorine and salts that are on the fabric.

Next, place the swimsuit in a large tub or basin and fill it with cool water. Add half a scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Make sure the swimsuit is fully immersed and wave it around to help work in the soap. Let it soak for at least 20 minutes.

Rinse the swimsuit thoroughly afterward; you’ll have to massage the fabric with your hands to remove the soap suds. Continue to rinse until the material is no longer soapy and lay it flat to dry.

Never put swimsuits in the dryer – the heat will distort and stretch out the elastic fibers, which will ruin their fit.
