Washing Instructions for K-Deer Leggings & Clothing

December 25, 2020

K-Deer is an activewear brand that’s known for their striped leggings. That’s not all—they also sell things like swimsuits, tanks, shorts, and more. On top of that, their catalog also includes accessories such as scrunchies and wristlets. Plus, they offer wholesale opportunities.

More About K-Deer

K-Deer was founded by Kristine Deer in 2010. A yoga enthusiast, she designed her own pair of yoga shorts after realizing that her old soccer shorts weren’t enough to withstand regular practice. Before long, she was hand cutting and sewing them to customers around the world.

Since then, the brand has grown tremendously. For one thing, they offer sizes from XS all the way up to 4XL. Not only that, but they also give back to the community. For each pair of Signature Stripes that are sold, 5% of the proceeds go to non-profit organizations. You can learn more about that here

What Types of Clothes Do They Offer?

Like we said earlier, K-Deer is an activewear brand. Besides leggings, which are available in various styles (e.g. stripes, pocket, solids, prints), they also sell shorts, tanks, bras, tees, all of which are designed for the gym. In fact, they even have their own line of sneakers!

As far as affordability goes, their leggings generally go for around ~$100, although there are some exceptions. For one thing, they do have a sale section where you can find various discounts. Plus, you’ll also receive some savings if you subscribe to their newsletter. To top things off, shipping is free if you order more than $75!

Taking Care of K-Deer Leggings and Activewear

K-Deer leggings are durable—and the same thing goes for the rest of their clothes. That doesn’t mean that the fabric won’t wear down, though. It’s bound to happen with time. The good news is that you can prevent that from happening aka extend their lifespan by doing certain things.

For starters, it’s important that you wash them after each wear. Even if they don’t seem dirty, they are. For one thing, there’s probably sweat on the item. You don’t want to give it a chance to breed bacteria so make sure to put it in the washer as soon as you can. Never leave it in your car or in the corner of your room until your next workout session!

What Fabrics Does K-Deer Use For Their Clothes?

Activewear is typically made of synthetic fabrics and that applies to their clothes as well. Here’s a rundown of what they use:

Nylon

Nylon is exceptionally strong compared to other fibers, which makes it great for activewear. Abrasion-resistant, the fabric is capable of withstanding surface wear from rubbing. At the same time, it’s also soft, lightweight, and comfortable to wear. Given that, it’s not surprising to know that it’s one of the fibers used for K-Deer’s signature leggings.

Spandex

Spandex has superb elasticity. For this reason, it’s often incorporated in leggings, tights, etc, for four-way stretch (aka it allows you to move freely while you’re exercising). Like most synthetic textiles, it’s also resistant to sweat and abrasion. It’s the other fabric that K-Deer uses for their leggings.

Polyester

Polyester is similar to nylon in that it’s durable and often used for activewear. In addition to having moisture-wicking properties, it also resists wrinkles and is quick-drying, which makes it easy to wash. While some clothes are made from 100% polyester, it’s not uncommon for it to be blended with other similar fibers.

How To Wash K-Deer Leggings?

Let’s face it, their leggings aren’t exactly cheap—so be careful how you wash them. After all, it’s easy to ruin doing the laundry. With that said, it’s pretty straightforward as long as you follow the proper steps…and that’s what we’ll be going over below!

Are K-Deer Leggings Machine Washable?

While it’s recommended that you hand wash their leggings, you can also use the washing machine. Just take the proper precautions so that they won’t wear down during the wash cycle. For starters, you want turn the item inside out—this goes for all of their leggings, not just their striped collection. Once they’re inside out, protect them by using a mesh bag.

Can you wash K-Deer leggings with other clothes? Technically, yes—as long as you’re not mixing colors. In other words, don’t mix your white tees and cardigans with your black leggings. Ideally, you also want to avoid putting them together with zippered items as they can cause snagging.

Seal the mesh bag so that your leggings won’t fall out and put it in the machine. Plain water won’t do you any good so make sure to add soap—one scoop of ACTIVE detergent will do. Next, make sure you set it to a cold water cycle on delicate. If anything, that’s the most important step; a normal cycle will be too rough on the leggings and hot water can damage the fibers. Fabric conditioner and bleach should not be used.

Start the cycle. Open the door and remove the mesh bag once it’s finished. Proceed to air-dry them on a clothesline—ideally indoors so that they won’t be affected by sunlight. Do not put your K-Deer leggings in the dryer.

Pro-tip: Consider treat-spotting your K-Deer leggings first if there’s a stain. To do this, add ACTIVE detergent to water and apply it liberally onto the spot with a soft-bristled brush. Gently move it in a circular motion from the outside in—that’ll prevent the stain from spreading to other areas. Rinse with water afterward (the spot should be gone) before laundering as normal.

Hand Washing Your K-Deer Leggings

Hand washing is often preferred for leggings because it’s more gentle. Similar to machine washing, you want to start by turning them inside out. From there, you can prepare the soap. Add a scoop or so of ACTIVE detergent to a sink or container and fill it with warm water. Mix until the detergent is dissolved before adding the leggings in. The key is to ensure that the entire item is in the water. If needed, press down on the item with your hands to saturate them with the solution.

Leave the leggings alone for at least 20 minutes. That’s the most important step when it comes to hand washing clothes—it lets the detergent work into the fabric. Once the 20 minutes is over, rinse the leggings with water; there should be no more visible soap bubbles when you’re finished.

Gently squeeze the leggings to extract some of the water before transferring it onto a towel. Use it to remove more water before putting it up on a clothesline to air-dry. Direct heat should always be avoided.

Washing Instructions for K-Deer Sports Bras

Their sports bras are made from the same four-way nylon/spandex fabric as their leggings. In other words, you can wash them similarly—just be more careful since they can be delicate!

Putting K-Deer Sports Bras in the Washing Machine

Start by securing any loose ends—this includes velcro straps and hook-and-eye closures. From there, place the bra in a lingerie bag. It’s important that you don’t skip this step. Without it, your sports bra will get thrown around during the cycle, which can cause damage to the elastic fibers. You can wash them together with other activewear as long as you’re not mixing light and dark colors.

The next step is to dunk the lingerie bag in the washer. Add one scoop of ACTIVE detergent and set the machine to wash with cold water (hot water can cause warping and shrinking). Do not add any softeners or conditioners as they’re not meant to be used with workout clothes.

Press the start button and let the washing machine run. When the cycle ends, pull your lingerie bag out and remove the bra. Carefully hang them to dry (try not to hang them by the straps). Never dry delicates such as sports bras by putting them in a dryer.

How to Wash K-Deer Sports Bras By Hand

This method is more hands-on but it’s also more gentle on your bras. Start by adding water to a sink or container. Add in a scoop of ACTIVE detergent and agitate the water to help it dissolve. You should end up with a bubbly solution. From there, dunk your sports bra in. You might have to submerge it by pressing it down with your hands.

Let the sports bra soak for at least 20 minutes. If you don’t, the detergent won’t be able to remove all of the gunk. Set a timer and come back once it’s ready. Once it’s soaked, rinse the item with water by holding it under the tap or re-filling the sink or container with clean water. Either way, you want to remove all of the detergent from the fabric.

When it’s obvious that there’s no more detergent, hang it dry. Like we said earlier, the dryer should be avoided.

The Best Way to Wash and Clean K-Deer Swimsuits

With swimsuits, you want to rinse them as soon as possible with cool water. That will get rid of any salt, chlorine, and body oils that can damage the material. If possible, let it soak for 20-30 minutes in a sink or tub.

While plain water is good for rinsing, it won’t be enough to remove everything. In other words, you want to add soap—a scoop of ACTIVE detergent will do. Gently mix it with your hands so that it will dissolve in the water. The next step is to submerge the suit. Before you do, though, turn it inside out. It’s also a good idea to swish it around for a couple of minutes.

Remove the swimsuit from the sink and rinse it with water until it runs clear. Carefully squeeze the excess water out of the fabric. Remember never to wring it. To dry it, lay it flat in a well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. This is important since the UV rays can break down the fibers—not to mention that it can also cause the colors to fade.
