What’s the best way to keep your lacrosse equipment clean? Can you use a disinfectant spray? What product should you use to clean lacrosse gear?

The Best Ways to Clean Your Lacrosse Jersey
Lacrosse jerseys should be washed after each wear to prevent odors from developing.
Machine Wash Your Lacrosse Jersey
Lacrosse Jerseys are typically cut from polyester, which gives them moisture-wicking properties. It also means you can run them through the washing machine with a mild detergent.
Step 1: Use a Laundry Bag
Turn your lacrosse jersey inside out to protect the logos and place them in a large laundry bag.
Make sure the laundry bag is zipped all the way and load it into the washer.
Step 2: Add ACTIVE Detergent
Measure and add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Avoid using fabric softener; the chemicals will hinder the fabric’s moisture-wicking abilities.
You also want to avoid using chlorine bleach and other harsh chemicals.
Step 3: Run a Wash Cycle
Wash the jerseys with a delicate cycle with cold water.
Step 4: Let Them Dry
Let the jerseys air dry on a drying rack or clothesline after washing.

Synthetic materials should always be washed with cold water. While it’s not as effective at removing stains, it helps prevent shrinking and color bleeding.
Hand Wash Your Lacrosse Jersey in the Sink
You can also wash your lacrosse jerseys by hand – you just need a large sink or tub and some detergent.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Water
- Clean towel (optional)
Step 1:
Fill a sink or tub with cold water and add a bit of ACTIVE Detergent to create a soapy mixture.
Step 2:
Once the detergent is dissolved, place your jersey in the sink.
Make sure the fabric is completely submerged in the solution and let it soak for at least 15 minutes (longer if it’s excessively dirty).
Step 3:
Gently rub the fabric to remove any remaining dirt or oils, then rinse with cold water.
Continue until there are no more soap suds on the garment.
Step 4:
Squeeze out the extra water, then let it air dry in a well-ventilated area.
If necessary, you can also use a dry towel to get rid of some of the excess moisture.

- Water
Step 1:
Fill a sink with cold water and mix in some ACTIVE Detergent.
Step 2:
Place your gloves in the soapy water once the detergent is fully dissolved and let them soak for 15-20 minutes.
Step 3:
After soaking, rub the gloves gently with your hands to remove any remaining oils and dirt.
Rinse with clean water afterwards until there’s no more soap residue.
Step 4:
Once the water runs clear, transfer the gloves to a well-ventilated area and let them to air dry.
Do not put your lacrosse gloves into the dryer.
Do not wash your gloves on the same day as a game as they will not dry in time.
Is it Safe to Put My Lacrosse Gloves Into the Washing Machine?
While machine washing lacrosse gloves is not ideal, you can do it in a pinch. Just don’t make it a habit.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Laundry bag
Step 1:
Place each glove in a large laundry bag; it will prevent them from being damaged during the cycle.
Step 2:
Place the bag in the washing machine and add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent. Skip the softener.
Step 3:
Run a delicate wash cycle with cold water.
Avoid using hot water; it can lead to shrinkage or permanent damage, especially if there are leather components.
Step 4:
Once the cycle is finished, take them out and put them on a hard surface with the fingers up; that will allow the water to drain.
You can use a fan to speed up the drying process, if necessary.
Preventing Your Lacrosse Gloves From Getting Stinky
Ideally, you don’t want to wash your gloves too often as the soap and water will cause them to deteriorate over time.
Given that, it’s a good idea to deodorize your gloves now and then to prevent the need for deep cleaning.
Start by airing them out after practice; the ventilation will help prevent them from developing odors.
Using dryer sheets is another option. Simply place them into your gloves when you’re not using them. Keep a few extras in your lacrosse bag as a backup, if necessary.
How to Properly Clean Your Lacrosse Shoulder Pads
Cleaning Lacrosse Pads By Hand
We recommend cleaning your lacrosse pads every few weeks to keep them in top condition.
Supplies:
- ACTIVE Detergent
- Water
Step 1:
Rinse the pads under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
Step 2:
Fill a sink with water and add some ACTIVE Detergent to create a bath.
Step 3:
Place the lacrosse pads in the cleaning solution and let them soak for 15 minutes.
Step 4:
Lightly rub the material with your hands after soaking, then rinse with water to remove the soap residue.
Never put your lacrosse pads in the dryer; the heat will damage the foam.
Machine Washing Lacrosse Pads
We don’t recommend placing your lacrosse pads in the washer. While you can wash them with cold water on a delicate cycle, doing so regularly will permanently damage the material.
Best Way to Deodorize Your Lacrosse Helmet
Protective gear such as helmets should also be cleaned regularly to keep them in tip-top shape.
Cleaning the Outside of the Helmet
You can clean the surface by wiping it with a clean, damp cloth. Alternatively, you can clean the sports equipment with sanitizing wipes.
Don’t forget to clean the chin guard and face mask as well.
Cleaning the Inside of the Helmet
Dirt and sweat can easily get embedded inside your helmet. Luckily, the padded liners can be removed, which means you can clean them with ease. All you have to do is soak them with warm soapy water.
Never put your helmet in the washing machine – that can compromise its construction.
How to Wash Your Lacrosse Cleats & Remove Odors
Cleats can get quite dirty from the dirt and grass. Fortunately, they’re easy to wash.
Hand Washing Them with Detergent
To prevent damage, we recommend cleaning your cleats by hand.
Supplies:

- Water
- Soft bristle brush
- Clean towel
Step 1:
Fill a large sink or tub with warm water and add a bit of ACTIVE Detergent.
Step 2:
Place your cleats in the sink once the detergent is dissolved and let them soak for 15-20 minutes.
Step 3:
After soaking, gently scrub the surface with a soft bristle brush to remove any remaining dirt. Then rinse with clean water.
Step 4:
Use a clean towel to remove some of the excess water, then place them in a well-ventilated area to air dry.
To prevent them from losing their shape, you can stuff them with a washcloth.
Can You Put Lacrosse Cleats Into the Washing Machine?
If your shoes are excessively dirty, you can try putting them in the washing machine. Just make sure not to do it too often.

Step 1:
Place the cleats in a large laundry bag and add them to the washing machine.
The bag will act as a barrier and protect them from getting tossed around and damaged during the wash cycle.
Step 2:
Add one scoop of ACTIVE Detergent and run a gentle cycle with cold water.
Step 3:
Take the lacrosse cleats out of the machine after washing and let them air dry.
Do not wash them with other lacrosse gear. However, you can add a few towels to help balance the load.
