Activewear Laundry Detergent Questions & Answers

Athletic wear clothing has changed a lot in the past decade. Many clothes are now made of “technical fibers” which are woven much tighter than traditional fabrics. This makes it harder for detergents to penetrate the fibers and remove sweat and body oils.

Old-school detergents will coat the fibers and lock those odors into clothing, rather than fully cleaning them.

Our plant-based enzyme formula addresses this problem head-on. ACTIVE Detergent is scientifically formulated to break down sweat and oils and remove odors.

ACTIVE Detergent is made with a natural organic formula that is free from any harsh chemicals.

It is:

  • Organic
  • SLS free
  • Phosphate free
  • Cruelty free
  • Gluten free
  • Septic safe
  • Non toxic
  • Hypoallergenic

Yes! Our detergent is specifically designed for these fabrics. ACTIVE Detergent works great on all technical and synthetic fibers like:

  • Lycra
  • Repreve
  • Spandex
  • Elastic
  • Mesh
  • Microfiber
  • Polyester
  • Dri-fit
  • Coolmax
  • Climalite
  • Many more

Unlike many traditional detergents, ACTIVE is not scented. We’ve found that the added scents in most detergents will just cover up odors rather than removing the cause (sweat, oil, etc).

With ACTIVE Detergent, you’ll be able to tell right after washing if your clothes are actually clean. We’ve got nothing to hide!

One 48oz bag of ACTIVE Detergent should last for approximately 90 loads of laundry. Don’t let the small scoop size fool you – our concentrated formula is a powerful cleaner. We left out all the fillers that you’d find in traditional detergents and only included the ingredients that work.

No it does not. ACTIVE Detergent contains no added fabric softeners or scents which can prevent proper cleaning of activewear clothing. Read more about why fabric softener is bad for workout clothes.

No, ACTIVE Detergent is only available in powder form. Liquid detergents and pods are not as effective at cleaning the technical fibers found in activewear clothing. They are packed with fillers that will clog these fibers and trap odors.

You can read more about the benefits of powder detergents here.

In most cases, soaking isn’t necessary. Instead we recommend just washing the item a few times to break down the oils and trapped residue.

Yes! If you aren’t fully satisfied with ACTIVE Detergent, we will refund your purchase price. Please note that some odors (especially on old workout clothes that have been washed with other detergents) may take a few washes before the odor disappears.

For this reason, we ask that you give ACTIVE a chance by washing the clothes a few times before requesting a refund.

Yes! ACTIVE has been tested for many uses with different types of clothing. When used properly it should actually extend the life of your activewear clothing. Just be sure to follow the care instructions recommended by the clothing manufacturer.

ACTIVE can be used in any type of washing machine. It’s safe for all HE washers (front load and top load) and traditional washers as well.

You can put ACTIVE directly into the detergent dispenser of your HE washer. If you are having problems with the detergent not dissolving all the way, we recommend putting it in the washer drum with the clothes instead.

While ACTIVE technically can be used with other detergents, it’s not necessary and we do not recommend it. As you may have read, other detergents use fillers and softeners that clog the fibers of your workout gear. This will counteract some of the effects of ACTIVE Detergent, so it’s best to use it as a standalone.

Yes! ACTIVE has been tested on pet odors including vomit, feces and urine. For best results, you may need to use a concentrated paste (ACTIVE & water) on the spot to get it fully clean.

ACTIVE is safe for nearly any type of clothing or fabric. Even though it isn’t specifically designed for cotton, it is still fine to use for washing cotton clothing. If you are ever unsure about using ACTIVE with a certain fabric, just reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help!

Yes! ACTIVE Detergent is designed to remove stains and odors caused by sweat and other oils. In some cases you may need to pre-treat the spots using a concentrated paste of ACTIVE Detergent and a bit of water. Let the paste sit on the spots for about 30 minutes before washing.

Absolutely. The natural plant-based enzymes used in ACTIVE Detergent are made to target only the oils and residue in your clothing while being gentle on the fabric. Be sure to follow any care instructions from the clothing manufacturer. You can also hand wash using ACTIVE if you want to be extra safe.

Yes it is. ACTIVE does not contain harsh chemicals like other detergents and is also a low-suds formula which makes it safe for all septic systems.

You can use those products with ACTIVE but they will counteract the work that the detergent is doing, so we do not recommend it. ACTIVE is made to cleanse the fibers of your clothing. Dryer sheets, fabric softener and scent boosters are notorious for clogging technical fibers.

The enzymes in ACTIVE Detergent are formulated to break down any natural stains, like blood. If the bloodstain is dried or set-in already, you may need to pre-treat the stain with ACTIVE before washing. We recommend making a paste to put on the stained spots by mixing a small amount of ACTIVE Detergent with water.

Yes. ACTIVE Detergent is free from SLS and any other harsh chemicals.

While ACTIVE is specifically made for sweat and odors from body oils, it also can work on smoke odors. You may need to do a quick pre-soak (no more than 30 minutes) of the clothing before washing with ACTIVE, depending on how strong the smoke odor is.

ACTIVE works in any temperature of water. Just follow the care instructions from the clothing manufacturer and use the temperature they recommend.

No. ACTIVE does not contain any artificial brighteners which makes it a great choice for any outdoor or weatherproof clothing.

No. We do not conduct any animal testing on our products.

Yes! ACTIVE works with both hard and soft water. If you have particularly hard water, start by using the recommended amount of ACTIVE Detergent. If this does not produce the results you want, try adding an additional 1/2 to 1 scoops the next time you wash.

We haven’t tested ACTIVE for tar removal, but it’s worth a shot. We recommend making a paste with ACTIVE and water to put on the tar spots before washing.

No. ACTIVE Detergent doesn’t contain any Methylisothiazolinone or Methylchloroisothiazolinone.
