Hot tubs are great if you want a relaxing bath. However, they can also become a hotbed for grime and contaminants. That’s why it’s so important to clean them regularly, ideally once every three to four months.
Not only will that keep odors at bay but it’ll also help prevent unsightly residue.

Step-by-Step Guide: Cleaning Jetted BathTubs with ACTIVE
Cleaning your jetted tub with our cleaner involves four main steps:
- Preparing the tub
- Adding the cleaner
- Turning on the valves and running the jets
- Draining and rinsing
Preparing the Tub
First things first, you want to prepare the tub. This involves wiping away any visible debris from the surface of the tub – that will allow the ACTIVE tub cleaning formula to penetrate and clean the tub components effectively.
Next, fill the tub with hot or warm water, making sure that the water level stays at least 2 inches above the jets.
Adding the Cleaner and Running the Jets
Once the tub is prepped, it’s time to add the cleaning solution. More specifically, you want to add 4oz of the cleaner into the water.
After adding the cleaner, turn the jets on high and allow them to run for 15-20 minutes. That will distribute the cleaner throughout the jet system and ensure a thorough cleaning.
Draining and Rinsing
The final step is to drain and rinse the tub. Turn off the jets, drain the tub completely, and rinse the tub and jets thoroughly with clean water. That will help remove any remaining cleaning solution or residue.
Maintaining a Sparkling Jetted Tub
Regular maintenance is key to keeping your tub sparkling clean and performing at its best. This involves following a regular cleaning schedule and inspecting the jets and components of your tub.
Following a Regular Cleaning Schedule
We recommend cleaning your jetted tub with ACTIVE Jetted Tub Cleaner at least once a month. Heavily used tubs may require more frequent cleanings, with a rinse every two weeks and a deep clean once a month.
Even with infrequent use, monthly cleaning is advised to keep your tub in optimal condition. Remember, regular cleaning not only keeps your tub clean but will also help maintain its performance and longevity.
Inspecting Jets and Components
In addition to regular cleaning, it’s also important to inspect the following components of your tub regularly:
- The pump
- The filter
- The plumbing fittings
- The jet return
- Any motorized components like the motor, heater, or blower
Troubleshooting Common Jetted Tub Issues
Here are some common jetted bath tub issues and how to deal with them.
Removing Stubborn Stains
Stubborn stains on your tub can be a real eyesore. But with the right approach, you can remove them easily.
And that involves using a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
Simply apply the paste to the stains and let it sit for a minimum of 10 minutes. Then, use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub the stains before rinsing thoroughly with water.
Removing Black Gunk from the Jets
Black stuff in your jets can be a common issue, particularly if your tub hasn’t been cleaned in a while.
This gunk is usually the result of a dirty soap build-up, which includes soap scum, body oils, and other debris.
Using ACTIVE, however, will effectively eliminate the gunk. Alternatively, you can clean it with bleach. Note, bleach is a much harsher chemical than ACTIVE Jetted Tub Cleaner, so proceed with caution if you decide to clean using chlorine bleach.
Start by filling your tub with hot water until the jets are covered by 2-3 inches. Then, follow these steps:
- Add 1/2 cup of bleach
- Run the jets for about 15 minutes
- Drain the tub completely
- Repeat the process with clean water to ensure all the gunk and bleach are flushed out.

I had to keep pausing the jets due to the excessive foam. Avoid leaving the jets running for too long. I took another reviewer’s suggestion and switched off the aerator, but it still didn’t help.

We relocated to a new home featuring a bathtub. The reviews inspired me to buy this product, but I’ve nearly emptied the bottle today after filling the tub more than eight times, running the jets, and letting the water sit still for 30 minutes without acheiving any of the foam the reviews promised. After five attempts, I’ve ended up with un-pleasant residues in the water, so I added other detergents to boost the deep cleaning, yet I still end up with this greasy water. I’m incredibly frustrated. Is this typical?

The jets can be operated for roughly a minute before the bubbles begin to spill over. However, it does work effectively.

I previously enjoyed using “Oh Yuck” cleaner and was eager to try the Active brand. Unfortunately, this cleaner produces an excessive amount of foam. I can only run the jets for about a minute before the foam overflows the tub. I didn’t encounter this issue with other cleaners. I guess I’ll have to return to the previous brands.

It’s just not as effective as the more popular and well-known brand. Not even in the same league. I thought I’d save some money and give this a shot, but I really regret it. After just two uses, my jets are still dirty. Plus, it left a blue residue in the jets. Go for the other brand, trust me.

It creates a lot of foamand maybe skip the recommended 4 oz? We had to pause the jets to manage the foam, which could be frustrating. The scent is mild, but having a window open helps. Ultimately, the tub is clean, which is what matters. It’s a solid product; just don’t take the instructions too seriously!

I’ve tried many products, but none match the cleaning power of ACTIVE for jetted bathtubs and jacuzzis. It cleans the entire tub, including jets and tubing, in just 15-20 minutes with a simple rinse, leaving everything sparkling. The pleasant scent is an added bonus! It’s fantastic value, easy to use, and the quality is outstanding. Let the foam and jets do the scrubbing for you. This is the best cleaning product I’ve ever purchased, and I highly recommend ACTIVE!

I don’t use my jetted tub often because it’s deep and requires a lot of waterr, and I lack the patience to wait for it to fill. Occasionally, I enjoy a soak, but since the jets are lower, I only need to fill it halfway, so I add about 4 oz of cleaner. After running the jets for 20 minutes, I saw some grime on the foam’s surface, likely due to infrequent use. I have mixed feelings about the cleaner; we have very hard water, which leaves deposits. I suspect some deposits are present inside, but I didn’t notice any residue after using the cleaner. I need to refill and run the jets again to flush out any leftover cleaner. The cleaner has a mild scent that didn’t trigger my allergies, which is a relief since stronger smells can cause me to sneeze uncontrollably.
