Step-by-Step Guide: Cleaning Jetted BathTubs with ACTIVE
Cleaning your jetted tub with our cleaner involves four main steps:
- Preparing the tub
- Adding the cleaner
- Turning on the valves and running the jets
- Draining and rinsing
Preparing the Tub
First things first, you want to prepare the tub. This involves wiping away any visible debris from the surface of the tub – that will allow the ACTIVE tub cleaning formula to penetrate and clean the tub components effectively.
Next, fill the tub with hot or warm water, making sure that the water level stays at least 2 inches above the jets.
Adding the Cleaner and Running the Jets
Once the tub is prepped, it’s time to add the cleaning solution. More specifically, you want to add 4oz of the cleaner into the water.
After adding the cleaner, turn the jets on high and allow them to run for 15-20 minutes. That will distribute the cleaner throughout the jet system and ensure a thorough cleaning.
Draining and Rinsing
The final step is to drain and rinse the tub. Turn off the jets, drain the tub completely, and rinse the tub and jets thoroughly with clean water. That will help remove any remaining cleaning solution or residue.
Maintaining a Sparkling Jetted Tub
Regular maintenance is key to keeping your tub sparkling clean and performing at its best. This involves following a regular cleaning schedule and inspecting the jets and components of your tub.
Following a Regular Cleaning Schedule
We recommend cleaning your jetted tub with ACTIVE Jetted Tub Cleaner at least once a month. Heavily used tubs may require more frequent cleanings, with a rinse every two weeks and a deep clean once a month.
Even with infrequent use, monthly cleaning is advised to keep your tub in optimal condition. Remember, regular cleaning not only keeps your tub clean but will also help maintain its performance and longevity.
Inspecting Jets and Components
In addition to regular cleaning, it’s also important to inspect the following components of your tub regularly:
- The pump
- The filter
- The plumbing fittings
- The jet return
- Any motorized components like the motor, heater, or blower
Troubleshooting Common Jetted Tub Issues
Here are some common jetted bath tub issues and how to deal with them.
Removing Stubborn Stains
Stubborn stains on your tub can be a real eyesore. But with the right approach, you can remove them easily.
And that involves using a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
Simply apply the paste to the stains and let it sit for a minimum of 10 minutes. Then, use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub the stains before rinsing thoroughly with water.
Removing Black Gunk from the Jets
Black stuff in your jets can be a common issue, particularly if your tub hasn’t been cleaned in a while.
This gunk is usually the result of a dirty soap build-up, which includes soap scum, body oils, and other debris.
Using ACTIVE, however, will effectively eliminate the gunk. Alternatively, you can clean it with bleach. Note, bleach is a much harsher chemical than ACTIVE Jetted Tub Cleaner, so proceed with caution if you decide to clean using chlorine bleach.
Start by filling your tub with hot water until the jets are covered by 2-3 inches. Then, follow these steps:
- Add 1/2 cup of bleach
- Run the jets for about 15 minutes
- Drain the tub completely
- Repeat the process with clean water to ensure all the gunk and bleach are flushed out.

I recently bought a home with a jetted bathtub, which I was excited to use. However, I noticed some black specks in the tub. I sought advice from various sources plumbers, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, and more but none were helpful. Determined to fix it, I found a product on Amazon. After using it, I was shocked by the grossness I discovered! I’m rinsing, wiping, and drying the tub, and if it works out, it will earn a 5-star review. I noticed other users worried about the foam, so I used less than recommended. Still, it produced enough foam to make me scoop some out. Unlike those who complained, I have no issues; I’d do anything to avoid bathing in those unsanitary conditions.

Some reviewers found that the product produecd excessive suds. To fix this, turn off the jets’ aerator setting. This eliminates the sudsing issue. Just run the circulating pump without the aerator for a clean tub, hassle-free!

This product effectively cleaned the buildup in my jetted tub. The jets looked much better after the first treatment, but the second application made an even bigger difference. As someone with asthma and allergies, I appreciate that it has no strong chemical smell. I will defintely keep using it!

I found sme reviews that raised concerns about this product’s performance in our tub, but my experience has been positive. We have a large jetted tub that I fill with cold water, ensuring it’s two inches above the highest jet, and I run it for thirty to forty-five minutes. This effectively clears out buildup. After rinsing, there’s a fresh scent, and it removes a lot of debris. It’s efficient and user-friendly, with measuring lines that eliminate the need for a cup. While it’s a bit pricey, I’m happy to invest in clean jets.

The cleaning of the jets and lines has been effective so far. However, the main issue is that although the instructions suggest running the jacuzzi for fifteen minutes, you can only run it for about three minutes at a time due to excessive bubbles overflowing from the tub. This means you have to repeatedly stop and start the jets, waiting for the bubbles to settle each time.

the product says to drain the tub after 20 minutes, but I wouldn’t recommend it. On my second try, I followed the instructions but let the water sit overnight, keeping the lines filled with the solution. Running it again for 20 minutes worked, and the supply lines were clear!

This review is for the “ACTIVE Jetted Tub Cleaner Jacuzzi Bath – 32oz (8 Uses)” designed for cleaning jetted bathtubs. As a Vine reviewer, my opinions are based on personal experience without vendor influence. Owning a Jacuzzi provides a spa-like experience, but cleaning can be challenging. This American-made cleaner functioned well for us, especially since we often deal with dust and hard water mineral deposits. The application is simple: pour 4 oz into a filled tub, run the jets for 15 minutes, then rinse and wipe down. After our first use, we noticed a significant improvement in cleanliness, with no residue left behind. With enough for up to 8 uses, the price is reasonable. Given its effectiveness, this product earns a five-star rating.

We bought a house with a jetted tub that I suspect has never been cleaned. I tried several products, but none worked well. Using the Active cleaner, I was shocked by what came out of the jets. After a second run, only a little came out. It creates a lot of foam, but if you let it foam and then turn off the jets for about 10 minutes, the foam reduces. When you turn the jets back on, there’s less foam.
