I’ve relied on vinegar and water to clean my Keurig for years, but recently tried a new cleaning solution. I used 4 oz for a full reservoir, and since it had been a while since my last cleaning, I ran four 10 oz cups as recommended. After rinsing the reservoir and filling it with fresh water, I noticed an unpleasant odor in both the cleaning solution and the dispensed water. It took running nine 10 oz cups of fresh wateralmost two full reservoirsbefore the smell dissipated, far more than the usual four cups with vinegar. The bottle suggests running only two cups of the solution and then two cups of fresh water, which I found insufficient to remove all residue. Although this isn’t a major issue since I’m only using water afterward, I wanted to share my experience for others to be prepared for a longer cleaning process. Additionally, I noticed small flakes and particles in my cup after the third cup of cleaning solution, indicating it cleans effectively.

I’ve seen many positive reviews for this product, but I’m hesitant to try it. Unlike typical descaling solutions made of citric acid, this one contains Tomadol 91-8, which I’m unfamiliar with. The label states “For professional use only” and recommends protective clothing and eye protection, which should be included in the product description. A URL on the bottle leads to a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that classifies Tomadol 91-8 as a detergent with category 4 acute toxicity, indicating that even a few drops could be lethal. The concentration in the product is unclear, but it’s noted to be less than the deionized water and more than the citric acid. The SDS also mentions that disposal must comply with regulations, meaning it shouldn’t go down the drain. I haven’t seen other kitchen brands using this chemical, and since the packaging suggests it’s not for general consumers, I’m choosing to return it unopened.

I didn’t follow the instructions exactlyI ran the descaler mixed with water through my machine several times (about 4-5) and followed up with clean water alone several times (around 7). I’ve had my Keurig for over 10 years and never cleaned it before, so I was shocked by the incredible difference in taste! The amount of gunk that came out was surprising! I’ll definitely keep up with monthly cleanings now that I see how great coffee can taste from a clean machine, and I’ll keep buying this product. The only downside is the unpleasant fumes while it runs, but I can tolerate that for better coffee!
